Open Garden Day 2007 - Sandringham Flourishing Gardens

Sunday 21 October 2007

Six beautiful gardens in Sandringham were open to the public on Sunday 21 October from 11am until 5 pm. Gardens lovers started their tour at any garden, learning great waterwise gardening tips and enjoying scrumptious food.

21 Pellew Street
Mark Browning (of Chelsea Garden Show fame) designed the garden.

His brief was to create a garden with space for children and dogs to play, to have mostly Australian natives but also to have some roses to put in vases, some herbs to put in cooking and a lemon tree for dad.

61 Sims Street
A simple design that included a dry creek bed, a deck by the pool and a selection of plants that would survive even the toughest drought

6 Heath Street
The front is very cottagey and flowery, mainly in mauves, purple and white; roses, lavender and gardenias being predominant.

The back garden has a tropical influence after several trips to Bali. A tropical cottage garden!

10 Norwood Street
The garden is essentially of an “English style ”with azaleas, camellias and rhododendrums a dominant feature.

15 le Fevre Street
The garden was designed to ensure the family could enjoy the outdoor areas without a huge amount of maintenance. The lawns were taken out to reduce the required maintenance and watering.

3 Jennings
Inspired by the privacy of large hedges and expanses of lawn the owners began the task of emulating this theme even if on a reduced scale.
