Open Garden Day 2011

Brighton Gardens Old & New

Family Life celebrated 10 years of their Open Garden Day program and to commemorate this special anniversary, eight ‘Old & New Gardens' of Brighton were opened to the public on Sunday 23 October.

 

A diverse range of landscape designs were on show, displaying a wide variety of plant species at the following locations:
20 Were Street, Brighton                                             
43 Were Street, Brighton
10 Wellington St, Brighton
1a Wellington St, Brighton
1/206 The Esplanade, Brighton
2/206 The Esplanade, Brighton
208 The Esplanade, Brighton
19 Seacombe Grove, Brighton

 

In addition to these ‘Old & New Gardens', guests enjoyed live music provided by local school groups, informative exhibits from local nurseries and sponsors, activities for the children, courtesy transport from garden to garden in vintage cars,culinary delights from the BBQ and Devonshire tea stands and handcrafts.

 

"Being our 10th anniversary we aimed to make the day even bigger and better. We were very grateful to our garden hosts who agreed to share their gardens with the surrounding community," says Pauline Reynolds, Family Life Volunteer Open Garden Day Convenor.

 

Supported by Citywide, Copper Rock and South East Water as the major sponsors and Bayside City Council, Highett Community Bank Branch of the Bendigo Bank, MGF Financial Services, Norton Builders, Cabrini Health, Bay Road Nursery, Genus Landscape Architects, Birchwood Landscapes, White Wires and Mr Trampoline as sponsors, the event  also provided helpful conservation and water saving information.

 

The Family Life Open Garden Day is a community event. The $46,000 raised supports Family Life's Community Bubs program which helps vulnerable local babies and children to stay living safely in the care of their families.

The event was organised and run by a team of dedicated and hard working volunteers who once again planned a fantastic community day which was enjoyed by more than 1,200 guests.
